Township Empowerment Alliance host entrepreneur workshop in Alex

ALEXANDRA – Moraka also urged entrepreneurs to always seek a new way of doing business if they felt that things were tough in the sectors they operated in.

One of the most successful entrepreneurs in Alexandra, Xoliswa Moraka has urged emerging entrepreneurs to stop spending their hard-earned money on flashy cars and clothes.

Moraka was speaking at the entrepreneurs workshop hosted by Township Empowerment Alliance (TEA) at Sankopano Community Hall in Alexandra where local business minds converged to discuss and pitch their business ideas.

She said one of the downfalls of emerging entrepreneurs, especially those from previously disadvantaged communities, was that they spent money on flashy cars instead of investing in their businesses’ growth.

“Stop spending money on flashy cars, invest money on things that will help your business grow. If you don’t how to reinvest your money, find yourself an accountant who can help you manage your money better,” Moraka added.

She also urged entrepreneurs to always seek new ways of doing business if they felt that things were tough in the sectors they operated in.

“Don’t marry to one product that you are selling, be married to why you started the business. If the water that you sell is not in demand in the market find something else, invent something new and move on. Don’t get stuck because your product is not moving on the shelves.”

Sbusiso Molemi one of the founding members of TEA and well-known public speaker said the event was aimed at bringing successful and emerging entrepreneurs under one roof to network, share their experiences and exchange knowledge.

“Our vision as an organisation that seeks to uplifts township entrepreneurs is to connect, develop and help entrepreneurs grow their businesses. This four-year-old organisation was the brainchild of a young entrepreneur from Tembisa, Bulelani Balabala who saw a need to start an organisation that will deal specifically with township entrepreneurs,” he said.

Molemi said the organisation had assisted many emerging entrepreneurs to grow their businesses in various townships across the country.
