Run Alex members receive much-needed boost from Adidas

ALEXANDRA – Local runners club gets much-needed boosts from Adidas.

The members of a local runners club, Run Alex recently received much-needed help from a clothing and footwear manufacturing company Adidas.

The company donated 32 pairs of running shoes to members of the club. Speaking at the handover ceremony in KwaBhekilanga Sports Complex, Adidas ambassador Bongani Bilankulu said they were impressed by Run Alex project that has been constant since it was established by community members in January last year. “One of our responsibilities as the organisation is to help runners from underprivileged communities with what runners need the most – running shoes,” Bilankulu said.

“I was here during their very first run on 20 January 2018 when they started this club. I drove all the way from Centurion to witness and be part of your first run. What I did not know was that this will be such a huge project and have so much impact on the Alex community. We are happy as Adidas to be making this donation to such a deserving group and community.”

Chief coordinator of Run Alex and one of the founding members of the organisation Siphiwe Nkosi said they were delighted that an organisation such as Adidas recognised what they do. “We are a community club that operates without any budget or sponsorship. We depend on donations like this one and our members to run this club. This is confirmation that what we are doing as a community is recognised far and beyond,” Nkosi said.

“We will continue to encourage community members to join the club and run with us every Saturdays and Sundays to keep their bodies healthy.”
