Cops rescue unconscious robbed victim

ALEXANDRA – Pistol-whipped pedestrian loses consciousness and money.

 


A suspected armed robber was arrested at the crime scene along 1st Street in Wynberg by patrolling officers from Alexandra Police Station.

Spokesperson Captain Stephen Malatji said the accused, who is to appear in court and an accomplice who is at large, allegedly stopped the victim at gunpoint at about 6.45pm on 27 October as he walked towards Watt Street. One of them grabbed and strangled him and the other one searched and took R4 500 in cash from his pocket. Afterwards, they pistol-whipped him on the head and he lost consciousness.

The officers who saw the incident reacted and arrested the suspect while the accomplice fled. Nothing was reported recovered from the suspect and the victim was taken to a clinic to be stabilised.
