Zenzeleni ups the ante on reading and IT

ALEXANDRA – School revamps library for 4th Industrial Revolution

Zenzeleni children’s curiosity and zeal for learning will be quenched when the school’s multi media centre is finally up and running.

Zenzeleni Primary School principal Thandi Gumede said this after the recent equipping by the Standard Bank’s staff volunteers of the library which will also be computerised. “Learning is beyond contact teaching and includes self reading of prescribed books, searching for information for assignments and for personal knowledge through Google.”

Gumede added that the centre will be launched soon after volunteers enlivened the place with multi-coloured shelves, wall posters, chairs and ottomans made on-site of tyres and pallet wood as well as stacks of books.

The books, Gumede said will aid the children with comprehension and comparative knowledge of various issues on life and the universe. “The computers will also enhance their learning through games and pictures and, advance their information and technology skills they are expected to muster for the Forth Industrial Revolution.”

They plead for computers donations to complement those provided for online service by Gauteng Education Department which require upgrading to align the anticipated expanded use.
