Learning and teaching at Pholosho Junior Secondary School may regress if a plea for help with repairs to damaged classrooms is not heeded.

The cry is for assistance from government and well-wishers after partitions between two classrooms in the double-storey building where allegedly broken down by learners, some of who have been identified. This according to dejected school principal Dingaan Kubheka who said meetings will be held with the culprit’s parents to ensure appropriate punishment was meted out.

“The [education] department is aware of our plight and we hope assistance will be forthcoming soon including from the school’s long-standing and potential partners,” said Kubheka.

He added that there were also gaping holes between three other classrooms, in some outer walls, whiteboards and ceilings, not to mention graffiti on inside and outside walls. Due to the damage in the adjoining classrooms, the lessons being taught can be heard in both classes.

Kubheka is also concerned about the walls of the classrooms which are made of asbestos, a known health hazard.

Among the school’s alumni are luminaries Archbishop Thabo Makgoba and former president Kgalema Motlanthe.
