Drunk man walks himself into the cell

ALEXANDRA – Man reporting crime ends up an offender

A man who walked into the Alexandra Police Station to report a case of assault ended up behind bars for negligent handling of a loaded gun.

Days later, the 36-year-old man appeared in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court where he was cautioned and discharged for the offence which occurred at the station at 9.50pm on 24 September.

After opening the case of common assault, the man who had a scratch on his face told the attending officer that he was drunk and that he had his licensed gun on him. This prompted the officer to confiscate the weapon which he found loaded with five bullets. He was then locked up for the negligent possession of the weapon while under the influence of alcohol.
