Keys lead victim to accused’s home

ALEXANDRA – Man's keys expose his unneighbourly antics.

A man’s house keys lead to his arrest and appearance at the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court for housebreaking theft from a neighbour.

The accused was remanded in custody and is seeking legal aid after admitting to investigators to spending R300 in cash which he took from the victim’s house at midnight on 7 October.

The victim, who ensured his place was locked and secured when he went to sleep, was woken up by movements and sounds in his room. With the bit of light in the room, he saw the accused fiddling around and asked him what he wanted and how he got in. The accused ran out, but in the process, he dropped his own house keys. The victim followed the accused with the keys and knocked on the door at the accused’s place but there was no response. He returned to his home and found some of his money missing before he went back to sleep. In the morning he went back to the accused’s place and knocked on the door, but no one answered. He unlocked the house and found the accused inside. When asked about the incident, the accused admitted to the theft leading to his arrest.
