15-year sentence for robbery and nothing to savour

A man found guilty for armed robbery will spend seven of his 15-year sentence behind bars for a crime whose proceeds he did not get to savour.

Eight of the years were suspended for five years.

Thobela Muso (36) who was unemployed then, was sentenced in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court for robbing a man of his valuables in Kew. He was with an accomplice who is still at large. Eight of the years were suspended for five years.

The pair had approached the victim who was walking on Corlett Drive at about 8.30pm on 30 July this year and demanded his money and cell phone at gunpoint.

They took R150 and the man’s house keys and ordered him to run. Fortunately, he ran in the direction of a passing police vehicle which stopped when the officers saw him waving them down. He informed them of the incident and they took him along to look for the robbers who they found walking on either side of the road. The two tried to flee but the accused was caught and found with a toy gum suspected to have been used in the robbery.
