ALEXANDRA – Twala has urged the community of Alexandra especially women to be positive and focus on the good side of their lives.

Mrs Commonwealth South Africa 2019/20 has urged women of Alexandra to work together, complement each other and lift each other to conquer their daily challenges.

The 39-year-old resident of Alexandra and mother of two, Fortunate Twala was recently crowned 2019/20 Mrs Commonwealth South at the prestigious beauty pageant event grand finale held in Gold Reef City, South of Johannesburg on 16 August.

The pageant has been running for six years and serves as a platform for women of all ages to become ambassadors within South Africa and the broader international community and empower women with the knowledge to bring change in their communities and those in need of help.

Twala was born and bred in Alexandra and is a member of two non-profit organisations. She said the competition taught her to view the world differently,

“I learned to see the world differently, to never give up, it also taught me that we learn by making mistakes in life. My journey as the finalist moulded my personal brand, which is being cosmopolitan, capable, confident, charismatic and caring.”

She urged the community of Alexandra, especially women, to be positive and focus on the positive side of their lives. “I encourage all women of Alexandra to work together, compliment each other instead of competing with each other because we are all linked to each other and that’s where the power of Imbokodo lies, in helping and lifting each other.”

Twala concluded, “Yes, it is a fact that we have our own problems especially when it comes to gender-based violence, substance abuse, pollution, rape and the high rate of HIV/Aids, however, despite having all these challenges, Alexandra remains a place where we live and remains a warm place to live in.”
