Main water pumping stations affected by veld fire

JOBURG CENTRAL– Joburg Water has urged residents affected to use water sparingly.

A veld fire occurred on the evening of 18 September which damaged Eskom’s Snowden substation.

The substation supplies 88kV of power to Rand Water Zukerbosch treatment plant and the Lethabo pumping station.

This meant that both Rand Water’s main treatment plants were unable to pump water to the reservoirs causing some strain on the system.

The following Joburg Water systems were affected:

  • Hurst Hill Reservoirs: Northcliff, Parktown and Greenside
  • Yeoville Reservoirs: Linksfield, Kensington, Doornfontein and Jeppestown
  • Brixton Reservior: Mayfair, Auckland Park and Johannesburg CBD
  • Linbro Park Reservior: Alexandra, Linbro Park and Modderfontein

Joburg Water has urged residents affected to use water sparingly while they restore the system to normal. Areas which are severely affected will be serviced via mobile water tankers.
