Local schools take part in owl art project

Local schools around the Johannesburg North area participated in an owl project by owlproject.org for the upcoming Alex Owl Day.
The project is headed by Delina Chipape, the project coordinator for the project. The participating schools included Marlboro Combined School, Zenzeleni Primary School, Iphutheng Primary School and Carter Primary School and the recently added schools, Rivonia Primary School and Cosmo City Primary School.

“The main mission of this project is to create owl- friendly children who grow out to be owl-friendly adults,” said Chipape.” This is us, preparing for our Alex Owl Day and all the details will follow as soon as everything is set.” Alex Owl Day is hosted annually, where the schools mentioned display their artwork. The winning school gets prize money of R5 000 to kick-start their environmental project.

Chipape explained that each visit to the schools was educational and fun. “I love how the kids are curious about owls, they ask questions, they like to explore and they seem to enjoy it.” The public is welcome to sponsor owls for the school of their choice at R500 an owl.
