Neighbour accused of raping 4-year-old girl

ALEXANDRA – Child's refusal to bath reveals rape, allegedly by a neighbour.

A 41-year-old man is set to appear at the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court for allegedly raping a four-year-old child.

Suspicion of the abuse was sparked when, on 23 July, the victim refused to be bathed with her 10-year-old sister by the aunt as usual. The concerned sister and aunt discovered blood in one of her articles of clothing and told they told the mother.

When asked, the child claimed that she has been injured by a broken bottle when she fell while playing. Worried that she could have been coached to lie about sexual abuse by the perpetrator, the family took her for medical testing. The results revealed injuries on her private parts associated with forced penetration and semen discharge.

When further prodded, the child cried and revealed the abuse which allegedly occurred in the perpetrator’s place in the yard they shared. He was traced, arrested on 29 July and is pending bail application.
