Armed robbery suspects nabbed by JMPD

JOHANNESBURG – Police followed up on further information which led to the arrest of two more suspects and the recovery of two firearms.


Four suspects were followed by members of the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) on Monday (19 August). The police were acting on information received that the four suspects have been involved in armed robberies around the Klipfontien and Rabie Ridge area.

According to a statement on the Ask the Chief JMPD Facebook page, a lookout for a silver Toyota Avanza used by the suspects was given to the police.

The Facebook post said that a vehicle was spotted at a shopping centre in Alexandra. “The members tried to stop it, but it drove off. A chase ensued and the vehicle came to a stop at London Road and 17th street. The driver jumped out and ran, but was caught and apprehended. One firearm was recovered in the vehicle.”

Police followed up on further information about the whereabouts of the other suspects. “Two more suspects were arrested at their place of residence and a further two firearms were recovered.

“The three suspects were detained at Alexandra SAPS. The vehicle was taken to Aeroton VISS and booked in as it was used in the commission of the crime.”
