ANC withdraws motion of no confidence against Joburg Mayor Herman Mashaba
JOHANNESBURG – Joburg Mayor angered about the withdrawal of the motion of no confidence against him.
The African National Congress (ANC) has, in the last minute, withdrawn a motion of no confidence against Johannesburg Mayor Herman Mashaba.
The ANC claimed the City was in a poor financial state and there was poor service delivery. However, the party said the motion was withdrawn for now. The ANC released a statement saying they had consolidated the support of 145 councillors for the motion of no confidence against Mashaba.

In an interview with eNCA, Mashaba said he was angry that the ANC decided to withdraw the motion against him.
“I am feeling very angry. For me being the mayor is the last job in the world I ever wanted. For me it is about the 35 000 employees of the City of Johannesburg who deserve to work in a stable environment,” said Mashaba.
“Secondly, what about our five million residents who expect service delivery from a stable government? And for the ANC to issue a statement of having 145 votes, I don’t see the reason why they should really not go ahead to get this motion passed so that they can have their own mayor.”
