A speeding car leaves pedestrian fighting for his life

ALEXANDRA– Mchunu said the victim was rushed to the local clinic which is a stone throw away from a scene where the incident happened.

The residents of Alexandra in 3rd Avenue and London Road have urged the City of Johannesburg to install speed humps on the notorious London Road.

This was after a pedestrian was knocked down by an alleged speeding car on the corner of London Road and 3rd Avenue on 5 August while crossing the road.

According to an eyewitness Michael Mchunu, the driver of the car lost control and knocked down a male pedestrian who was standing on the pavement.

He said the driver and his passenger got out of the car and ran away leaving the victim lying on the road side with both legs broken.

“We are calling on the City of Johannesburg to do something with regard to this. Every week someone dies or gets injured because of speeding cars.

“We have children who cross this road every day.

“They must put speed humps or we will do it ourselves because no one cares,” Mchunu said.

He said the victim was rushed to the local clinic which is a stone’s throw away from the scene of the incident.

The councillor in Ward 75 Sanie Mavhona said she will meet the concerned community to see if their proposal for speed humps can be done and escalated to the Johannesburg Roads Agency.

The police said they were still investigating the matter and no one has been arrested and urged community members with information to come forward.
