Brazen rapist takes chances

ALEXANDRA – Dumb rapist's acts eases his arrest.

An alleged rapist who seemingly got infatuated with his victim eased his arrest by posting his picture on her phone and called her for a meeting.

The 32-year-old accused from Olievenbosch was denied bail by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court for the alleged raped which occurred at night on 16 April in a bush along the R55 route. He caught up with the victim walking in the same direction, introduced himself as ‘Sipho’ and told her that he was from Limpopo. In the process she told him that she wasn’t sure of where to get transport to Tembisa and he offered to assist her.

Shortly after, he allegedly threatened her, pulled her into a bush and ordered her to undress. Shocked and scared, she complied and he allegedly pushed her to the ground ordered her to kiss him and insert his private parts into hers. She refused and he forced himself into her without a condom while pressing down her neck seemingly to stop her from screaming.

When he was done, he forced her to get dressed, cleaned her back, took her phone worth R5 000 and forced her to walk back to the road with him. They parted ways at a robot- controlled intersection next to a garage and a motorist assisted her to report the incident to the Diepsloot Police Station.

A week later, her sister received a call from a stranger requesting to meet the victim urgently at Diepsloot Mall. She (victim) agreed to the request and went with a colleague. In the process, the sister received a stranger’s picture posted from the victim’s cellphone.

On her arrival, the victim was shocked when the accused who she identified, greeted and asked her how she was. Infuriated, she demanded her cellphone resulting in a commotion with the accused trying in vain to quieten her and to settle the matter outside.

He then fled and his picture was handed over to investigating officers who, with her assistance, pointed him out in the street and he was arrested.
