Local councillor urges young people to visit his office at least once a week

ALEXANDRA – Councillor Adolph Marema addressed scores of residents in the ward community who filled the Swiss Mission Community Church Hall to capacity on the evening of 30 July.

Ward 116 councillor Adolph Marema has urged residents of his ward, especially young people, to call him or visit his office in order to keep track of the new developments and projects happening in the area.

He was speaking to scores of residents who filled the Swiss Mission Community Church Hall to capacity on the evening of 30 July.

The meeting was called to discuss and give updates on the electric meter boxes installation project by City Power that is currently under way in the ward.

Some residents in the meeting raised their dissatisfaction with the manner in which the information was disseminated while others complained about the new electric transformers that had been installed too close to their house windows.

Marema said the new boxes and transformers were meant to make the lives of residents easier after a number of power outages due to overloaded power supply were reported.

“If there is any member of this community who feels that he or she is denied information I challenge them to visit my office at least once a week or call me. I call upon all unemployed people, especially our youth, to take up this challenge,” Marema said.

The community liaison officer of the meter boxes installation project Syanda Xabanisa said the issue of transformers that were installed close to the houses will be discussed with the company that is responsible for the project.

Xabanisa also urged young people to apply for jobs if there was a project taking place in the area after only eight young people applied to be part of the work force of the project. “I would like to implore young people of this ward to take advantage of job opportunities when we have projects like this one. During the recruitment process, we received only eight applications from this ward and this is a concern to me.”
