Robbing youth in hot soup

ALEXANDRA – Youthful robbers fall on hard times.

Two youths from Alex had their woes compounded when one of them was sentenced to 13 years’ imprisonment by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court.

The other is pending a hearing after he had opted for a trial.

This after mob justice was meted on them by residents who came to the rescue of their robbery victim. Hope Ludigi (21) admitted to the offence and his sentence was commuted to five years after eight years were suspended. Meanwhile, his accomplice, Sello Noge (23), who has a previous criminal record awaits his destiny.

The two confronted a female victim at gunpoint while she was waiting for a taxi at the intersection of 6th and Florence Maphosho avenues at 10pm on 8 March. They snatched her handbag containing unspecified valuables and a cellphone.

The victim screamed as they left her, attracting residents who tracked and apprehended them and inflicted mob justice on them before handing them over to the police. The accomplice who appeared in court bearing signs of healed injuries from the beating was found to have committed the offence while on parole in a housebreaking case.
