Hallmark and Bramley Police Station donate groceries to local orphanage

MARLBORO – Community members and businesses are urged to lend helping hand to the facility by donating clothes, food and toiletries.

A company that sells salvages cars in the Wynberg area, Hallmark Auto partnered with Bramley Police Station to give back to the community on Mandela Day.

The company and men in blue brought smiles to the faces of children and staff members of Banakekeleni Orphanage Home in Marlboro when the trucks filled with much-needed groceries and a brand-new stove entered the gates of the facility. The home, which takes care of more than 30 orphaned children, depends on donations from the community and businesses to put food on the table.

Cleo Slabbert operations manager at Hallmark Auto said the company was considering making donations to the orphanage home every year.

“We were able to find this orphanage home through the help of Bramley Police Station officers who identified them. We realised that the home was in dire need of help and we are considering bringing donations of the nature annually. As a business operating within the community, we have an obligation to give back to the community,” Slabbert said.

Founder of Banakekeleni Orphanage Home, Rose Martin thanked the company and the station for the much-needed help which she described as ‘crucial rescue’ of the home.

“The donations came at a very crucial time for us as children’s home. Our fridges were empty and I don’t know where we were going to get the next meal for our children. We haven’t received any donations for days now and these donations came as a rescue for us,” Martin said.

Martin has urged community members and the business community to lend helping hand to the facility by donating to the facility clothes, food, and toiletries.
