Teen robber sentenced

ALEXANDRA – Teenager spoils his life through armed robbery.


An 18-year-old teenager was sentenced by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court to three years’ imprisonment for armed robbery.

Thembinkosi Naki, who dropped out of school while in Grade 9, was sentenced after he admitted to robbing an Alex resident of a cellphone at knifepoint. The incident occurred midday on 29 October near the Alexandra Mall, Tsutsumani.

He rose from a concrete slab on the side of the road and ordered the victim who was walking to stop or he would stab him. When the victim continued walking, Naki accosted him and demanded to search him. The two tussled and the victim was overpowered and thrown to the ground. Naki searched him and took his cellphone worth R5 200 and disappeared. The victim saw him in the same area on 4 December and alerted patrolling police officers who arrested him.
