JDA honoured by city

ALEXANDRA – JDA receives forth clean sheet from Auditor General.

The Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA) has escaped the negative buzz words, ‘wasteful’ and ‘fruitless’ expenditure for four successive years.

These words were popularised by the Auditor General who fingers out public entities which are found wanting through maladministration and corruption, which often lead to protests when promised service delivery is denied to residents.

In a statement the City of Joburg said, “The JDA received a certificate of appreciation for obtaining a clean audit opinion from the Auditor General for the 2017/18 financial year for the fourth consecutive year.”

Three other City entities also received similar praise from mayor Herman Mashaba at a public service day when he also honoured the City’s public servants at Gallagher Convention Centre.

According to the statement, JDA was recognised for the successful completion without blemish of large-scale infrastructure projects which

improve the standard of living for residents of the city which in turn, unlocks the potential for businesses to thrive in strategic area nodes.

“It has since inception 18 years ago, implemented over 600 strategic projects across all administrative regions of the city,” the statement read. The capital projects of various programmes were said to be catalysts of growth in areas with dormant investment potential.

“The awards demonstrate how the agency is committed to reaching this objective, while maintaining good governance,” said MMC for Development Planning, Reuben Masango.

One hundred and ninety one City employees also received Long Service Awards for their 39 years of exemplary work while others received Service with Pride awards for going out of their way to deliver outstanding service. Region A won the 2019 Best Region award followed by Region E in second place and Region D in third.

City employees who had lost their lives in the line of duty were also honoured.
