Suspect arrested while off-loading stolen copper on Old Pretoria Road

ALEXANDRA – Malatjie said the suspect claimed to have been offered a temporary job by those who ran away and he did not know them.


The police have arrested one suspect while others are still at large after they were found off-loading a truck that was filled with copper which had allegedly been stolen somewhere else.

According to Captain Stephen Malatjie, spokesperson at Alexandra Police Station, “On 8 July 2018 at around 1pm, our members received a tip-off about a suspicious truck along Old Pretoria Road.

“Upon their arrival, they found guys off-loading stuff and when they saw the police, they ran away. One of them was arrested. Checking the cargo, the police discovered a large quantity of copper covered by plastic bags.”

Malatjie said the suspect claimed to have been offered a temporary job by those who ran away and he did not know them.

The suspect briefly appeared in Alexandra Magistrates’ Court and was remanded in custody, pending further investigation.
