Alex Northrand Juniors league set to resume after some interruptions

ALEXANDRA -– The Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association's juniors league is set to resume.

The Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association‘s juniors league is set to resume this weekend of 14 and 15 July after some interruptions in the past four months.

The interruptions, which were caused by discrepancies in the permissible age dates for the various divisions, has since been resolved following an intervention by the mother body, the South African Football Association (Safa) which issued a circular clarifying the matter.

Under normal circumstances, the league is supposed to be well into the second half of the season by now, with the end scheduled for late November or early December.

Secretary general of the Alex Northrand LFA, Mafika Morajane said the interruptions had resulted in the delay of the completion of the season by well over two months.

When the league resumes this weekend, Morajane said it would overlap into next year, with completion expected at the end of February.

“We got a circular from Safa clarifying the permissible birth years for each of our four divisions, those being the U11, U13, U15, U17 and U19. The confusion has since been resolved and the league is now set to resume for a smooth run,” he said.

He added that the mother body had given its blessings for the extended season. “We would like to apologise to the community for the inconvenience and assure it that all glitches which had hamstrung the league have been resolved.”
