Multi-award winning artist David Koloane laid to rest

JOHANNESBURG – Veteran artist David Koloane laid to rest.


South African multi-award winning veteran artist David Koloane was laid to rest today (6 July). The service was held at the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God in the Johannesburg.

The 81-year-old Alexandra-born artist passed away at his home in Johannesburg on 30 June. President Cyril Ramaphosa expressed his condolences on the passing of Koloane.

“A giant in the arts has fallen; one who has contributed immensely to the arts in South Africa as an activist, a mentor to many and a pioneer for the development of the black art community,” said Ramaphosa.

Koloane was an acclaimed painter whose work featured in the world’s greatest collections. Some of his work has been exhibited in South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, London, and New York. He was known for championing the development of the black art community in South Africa.
