An Alex man was sentenced by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court to 15 years’ imprisonment for armed robbery.
Eight of the years meted on Themba Miya were suspended leaving him to serve seven years for the robbery which occurred mid-morning on 19 November. Miya and an accomplice who is at large admitted to the robbery of a courier driver.
The two approached the victim who had parked the vehicle along 9th Avenue in order to deliver a parcel. They ordered the victim at gunpoint to the back of the vehicle. A truck pulled up behind the victim’s vehicle momentarily distracting the accused.
Meanwhile, witnesses alerted the police who arrived at the scene prompting the accomplice to escape while Miya was nabbed. Nothing was reported stolen from the incident.
