Alert guard recovers robbed house items

ALEXANDRA – Victim's scream leads to house robber's arrest.

A security guard’s quick response assisted in the recovery of goods stolen from a Bryanston home in the early morning of 23 May.

The accused who is yet to plead, was remanded in custody to 21 June in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court pending further investigations. The

homeowner was awakened at about 4am by her sister’s screams from another room and went to check. Three men wearing balaclavas, one armed with a screwdriver, confronted her in the passage and forced her into her sister’s room. They tied their hands up with wire, forced them to lie down and covered their heads with a duvet as they ransacked the place. They took a television set, PlayStation, laptop, jewellery and clothes all valued at about R80 000.

Neighbours who heard the screaming sent a WhatsApp group alert which was picked up by the guard who followed the man as he ran into an informal settlement near the victims’ house. Residents of the settlement pointed to where the man had entered and the guard followed and found him with some of the stolen items.

His accomplices were not found and are subjects of the investigation.
