Police launch manhunt for robbers of ORT SA staff members outside Alex school

ALEXANDRA – Police investigate a case of robbery after Ekukhanyisweni Primary School visitors were robbed metres away from the school.

A docket of robbery has been opened after a group of ORT SA staff members were robbed at gunpoint on 3 June in Alexandra.

According to Marcelle Ravid, the marketing and communications manager at ORT SA, two of their staff and one overseas visitor were held at gunpoint and ordered to hand over their valuables a few metres from Ekukhanyisweni Primary School.

It is alleged that two male suspects, who were armed with guns, approached the victim’s car and robbed them of their cell phones and other personal valuables.

“It is said that two young men were apparently waiting nearby the school when our team left. The security person at the school apparently told the driver on opening the gate to ‘drive fast’. It was a miracle that no bodily harm befell the victims,” said Ravid.

Alex Police Station spokesperson Stephen Malatjie said they were aware of the incident and were still awaiting the case to be officially transferred to the station from Norwood Police Station, where the case was initially opened by the victims.
