Sci-Bono Centre invites learners to June Holiday Programme

NEWTOWN – Space for the June Holiday Programme is limited to 40 learners, so be sure to register early.

Learners across Johannesburg will have the opportunity to try out exciting new ways to learn at the Sci-Bono Centre in Newtown during their upcoming June Holiday Programme.

The three-week-long programme offers training in graphic design, 3D design, game development, videography, video editing and music production at the Sci-Bono Clubhouse, a free after-school programme that offers a safe and fun environment.

According to Cynthia Mohohlo, a communications manager at Sci-Bono, youngsters are invited to explore their own interests, develop skills and build confidence with technology. She said the main goal of this holiday programme is to develop and sustain an interest in creative thinking to solve real-world problems in their communities and the world using technology.

She also said that the programme aims to develop youngsters who are self-aware, eager to learn and adapt, forward thinking, motivated and have empathy, honesty and integrity. “Registered learners must attend the full three weeks to ensure that they build substantive skills to confidently continue with the programme. Through these mediums, the learners will gain various skill sets.”

Mohohlo explained that communication, teamwork, interpersonal skills, basic programming concepts, structural design, video production, music productions and design are just some of the skills they will gain during the programme.

“There will also be activities on street journalism boot camp, 2D and 3D game development, maker projects such as robotics as well as programming.”

The Sci-Bono Elements of Wonder Holiday Programme takes place from 15 June to 7 July 2019, while the Sci-Bono Clubhouse June Holiday Programme is from 17 June to 5 July. The Sci-Bono Clubhouse will provide a light lunch, however, Mohohlo asked parents to provide breakfast and lunch for children with special dietary needs. Learners between 10 and 18 are invited to learn basic computer skills but learners should be able to read, use a mouse and type.
