Learners from Liberty Community College in Kew, the bulk of whom come from Alex, joined their fellow counterparts from other schools around Johannesburg to map out their careers with the guidance of Primestars and their sponsors.
Themed ‘Youth Month 2019: Celebrating Innovative Solutions to SA’s rising Youth Unemployment’, selected students from the college joined more than 160 high school learners from schools across Jozi for a career guidance under the ‘My Future My Career’ initiative held at the Ster Kinekor cinema in Sandton City on 2 June.
The career guidance, now in its ninth year, features innovative educational content that is dramatised using other students to showcase career guidance episodes to grades 8 to 12 learners and also runs simultaneously in cinemas nationwide.
The multi-stakeholder programme provides valuable information through the 14 in-depth educational films which provide much-needed guidance on more than 100 possible career options and enables participating learners to begin preparing themselves for the transition from scholars into the world of work.
Various speakers from the programme sponsoring partners such as AECI, Women’s Development Bank Investment Holdings (WDBIH), the Gauteng Department of Education, AVI, Proudly South African, Regenesys Business School, Gearhouse, Kulula.com, Afrodee Entertainment, Spur Sandton City as well as the Gauteng City Region Academy, all outlined the various career initiatives which they have within their own space, which also included aspects of bursary offerings and learnerships.
