Robbers await their fate

ALEXANDRA – Robbers' attempt earn them a court date.


Two men accused of house robbery were remanded in custody and will appear at the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court on 10 June.

The men broke into a Sandown home in early March and one of them, Bongani Khoza, was apprehended inside the house and handed over to the police. The accomplice, Sithembiso Ngcobo, who admitted his involvement, was found to have served prison terms for similar offences in the past.

The homeowners were asleep when the husband was awakened by Khoza, who was wielding a gun and demanding money. The man told the robber they had none, but later said they had R20 000. The man then tackled him, and was joined by his wife and two sons who responded to the commotion. They restrained the accused and tied him with a rope.

Police, who were called to the scene, summoned an ambulance which took him under guard to a hospital for the treatment of injuries seemingly incurred in the altercation.

Investigators tipped off about Ngcobo’s involvement interrogated him, leading to his admission. His previous offences include three housebreakings and one theft.
