Residents at Itlhokomeleng Old Age Home celebrate Mother’s Day

ALEXANDRA – The founder of the old age home thanked the community of Alexandra and local businesses for their support.

Senior citizens from Alexandra and surrounding areas recently converged at Itlhokomeleng Old Age Home to celebrate Mother’s Day.

The event, organised by the facility which takes care of more than 300 elderly men and women in the area, aimed to bring local senior citizens together to celebrate Mother’s Day in one jubilant spirit. The senior citizens received brand-new blankets from different donors, participated in a special prayer session and enjoyed a special dinner.

According to Sbongile Tshabalala, an outreach programme coordinator at the facility, their dedicated caregivers visit senior citizens who cannot take of themselves in their homes three days a week to ensure that they eat and take their medication accordingly.

“Today we’ve brought together these veteran mothers of our nation to celebrate International Mother’s Day in one spirit. We take care of more than 300 senior citizens from Alexandra. Some live in the facility while others receive our care through our outreach programme and home-based care programme that we have for those who live with their families,” Tshabalala said.

Addressing those in attendance, founder of the 42-year-old facility Marjorie Manganye thanked the community of Alexandra and local business people for their support to ensure that the needs of senior citizens at the old age home are taken care of every day.
