Protect a child by wearing a green ribbon during Child Protection Week from 2 to 9 June

JOBURG – Child Protection Week raises awareness of safeguarding children from abuse, violence, and exploitation.

A campaign that started over 20 years ago in 1997 to ensure that children are cared for and protected is back as National Child Protection Week raises awareness of the rights of children as stipulated in the Children’s Act of 2005.

This year’s campaign will be marked from 2 to 9 June and it is led by the Department of Social Development, however, it is every citizen’s responsibility to play a role in protecting children from violence, trafficking and abuse to help secure a safe environment for them. The constitution places rights of equality and dignity for everyone, children in this country should be given the same priority.

If you know of a situation or want to seek help, the Social Development Department has a 24-hour toll-free call centre designed to provide support and counselling for victims of gender-based violence, contact 0800 428 428.

You can also receive help from Childline South Africa on 0800 055 555.
