Alex community celebrates mother’s day with 97-year-old Elizabeth Mataboge

Scores of people from different parts of Alexandra converged at 4th Avenue to witness the official handover of a refurbished house to the 97-year-old Elizabeth Mataboge.

This was after the local philanthropist and business mogul Linda Twala hosted a handover ceremony of a refurbished house to the senior citizen and struggle stalwart on a Mother’s Day.

Speaking during the ceremony, Twala said it pained him to see the struggle stalwart living in a dilapidated house with old broken furniture and the toilet metres away outside.

“Every time I visited her to check if she was doing fine, I felt immeasurable pain when I looked at the state of her room. I then spoke to a number of local business people who didn’t hesitate to lend a helping hand.

“We built her a new toilet inside the house, painted the entire house and bought her new bedding and house accessories as a gift for this year’s Mother’s Day. I would also like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Tshwane Gospel Choir for their bed donation and gracing this event with their great voices.”

Local ward councillor Ambie Maseko who attended the event urged community members to lend a helping hand to those in need without expecting a reward.

“I would like to thank you, the community of Alex, for the love you displayed towards Gogo Mataboge today. I would also like to thank Mr. Twala and the business people he worked with in ensuring that this day is recorded in our history. They’ve proved to us that working together can bring good results in changing other people’s lives,” Maseko said.

Mmalenyalo Mataboge, Elizabeth’s granddaughter thanked the community of Alexandra for showing love and care to her grandmother.
