Fire engulfs Gogo Ngwenya’s house

ALEXANDRA – Gogo Ngwenya appealed to the community to lend them a helping hand to rebuild their house.

The 71-year-old Muntu Ngwenya has appealed to the business community and anyone else who can, to help her family rebuild their house.

This after Ngwenya’s eight-room house was completely destroyed by fire in the early hours of Good Friday, 19 April, this year leaving the family of 15 with nothing to wear or eat. Ngwenya said schoolchildren and other family members had to be taken to relatives’ houses for shelter.

She said, however, that her family was extremely grateful for the help from neighbours, community members and Ward 76 councillor Moses Phandeka who extended a helping hand to her family. “I am grateful to God that no one was hurt during the incident.

“The only thing we need most at the moment is building material to rebuild our house. Since I was born 71 years ago, I’ve never lived in any other place except this one house. That is why I’m appealing to the business community and anyone who can help us rebuild our house by donating building material for us.

“We are extremely grateful and thankful as a family to all our neighbours and our local councillor who have been helping us with food and other essentials since the day of the incident.”

Ngwenya said the cause of the fire is still unknown and they were waiting for the City’s disaster management department investigation report to know what kindled the fire.

Those who would like to donate to the family can contact Ngwenya’s daughter, Thoko Mbokazi, on 083 892 8597 or 084 421 0738.
