Alex robbers remanded pending further investigation

ALEXANDRA – Guards, police end criminals' escapade.

Two Alex men were remanded in custody pending further hearings at the Alex Magistrates’ Court for alleged robberies committed in Glen Athol and Morningside.

Accused Takallo Twane and Moshe Ngobeni were arrested at the incident in Morningside midday on 13 March. They were found in possession of a vehicle stolen nine days earlier in Glen Athol on the morning of 4 March. Victims of the first incident pointed them out at an identity parade.

The Glen Athol incident occurred in the absence of the homeowner. A worker saw the two pushing a male gardener towards the house and she screamed. This attracted the robbers to her. They bundled the two into the house and demanded the owner’s vehicle as they ransacked and took seven laptops, an iPad, tablets, a cell phone and five wrist watches. They loaded the items into the vehicle which they drove away. All stolen items including vehicle were valued at R1 300 000.

They were nabbed at the Morningside home where a worker alerted the homeowner as they raided the place. Security guards alerted to the incident responded quickly and were joined by the police in apprehending the two as they tried to flee the crime scene. They had with them a handbag, belt and jewellery belonging to the homeowner. The vehicle from the first incident was traced and found at the home of one of the accused.
