Nomvula hitmaker on theft, assault charges

ALEXANDRA – Music sensation Nathi's brush with the law again.


The Alexandra Magistrates’ Court extended to 20 May, bail granted to sensational love ballads singer Nkosinathi ‘Nathi’ Mankayi for alleged business robbery.

He has a previous conviction for a robbery for which he served four years in the Eastern Cape province. His legal representative intends to request for mediation at the next hearing.

He and two accomplices were arrested and detained overnight at Bramley Police Station for the offence said to have been committed last year at his former boss, China Mpololo’s place or office. Station spokesperson Captain Molefe Mogodi confirmed the singer’s arrest stating that the robbed items were recovered by the police and returned to the victim with whom the accused seemingly had a fallout. Similarly, NPA spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane confirmed Mankayi’s arrest saying he was provisionally charged with theft and assault. The trio was granted extended bail with warnings on 9 and 30 April where the matter was further postponed.

The multi-award winning Afro-soul singer with raspy voice is akin to that of legendary Ringo Madlingozi rose to stardom in 2015 through hit- making single Nomvula from his debut album Buyelekhaya.
