Man charged with robbery

ALEXANDRA – A man accused of robbery was remanded in custody to 6 May.


A man recently released from custody for an unspecified crime was remanded in custody for aggravated robbery by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court. He will be back in court on 6 May.

Oscar Manyika (36) was nabbed at 3am on 16 April by security guards as he and an accomplice, who evaded arrest, left the victims’ Sandton home.

One victim heard movements in the house from his room and assumed it was his roommate. Later, he heard his cell phone on the bed’s sideboard, being moved. He woke up to a sight of a silhouette hovering over him. The accused ordered the victim to hand over a necklace at gunpoint. He further took two cell phones, a wallet containing R30 and also 1100 Indian currency rupees. As the accused and accomplice who had robbed the roommate of other items left, he was apprehended outside the premises by security guards on patrol who noticed them scaling the boundary wall.

The accomplice escaped. The victim who had followed them on foot met the guards with the accused already in their custody. All the stolen items in the accused’s possession were recovered and handed over together with a laptop also taken from the home. The two had entered the home through a sliding door.
