A newly formed political party Alliance for Transformation for All (ATA) have vowed to physically scrap e-tolls and get rid of slavery student’s financial aid if voted into power in the forthcoming general elections.
ATA which was formed in September last year and claims to represent the interests of taxi owners, taxi drivers and street vendors has appealed to the people of Alexandra to consider voting it into government if they want real change in their lives.
Speaking to hundreds of people gathered in Sankopano Community Hall the provincial chairperson of the party Jabulani Ntshangase said his party which will be contesting elections in all nine provinces will ensure that the neglected communities are given priority. Ntshangase said his party will ensure that taxi operators and street vendors receive a subsidy from the government like other business formations that receives it from the state.
He said his party will ensure that the impounding of taxis, arrests of taxi drivers and harassment of street vendors by Metro police will be a thing of the past once they take over government.
“Our cars are impounded almost every day. When the government is running out of cash in their fancy offices the only way to generate cash is to impound our cars. When the Metro Police officers are running out of groceries in their homes they go to the streets to steal from street vendors,”
“As ATA we are going to scrap the e-tolls and Bus Rapid Transport and divert that money to taxi operators to buy new taxis. We will get rid of the National Student Financial Aid Scheme and introduce free education scheme in which our children will not be compelled to pay it back.”
Ntshangase also took a swipe on Democratic Alliance (DA) and the African National Congress (ANC) for failing people of Alexandra when it comes to service delivery. He said the suffering of the people in Alexandra was because of corrupt City officials and greedy leaders who only think of themselves.
He promised residents of Alexandra best service delivery once his party takes over the government. He said time for being loyal to political parties that do not care for its people have reached expiry date.
