Thief ‘boxed’ in jail for 15 years

ALEXANDRA – Theft of chronic patients' meds gets robber 15 years in jail.

Empty boxes of medicine meant for chronic patients were enough evidence for the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court to sentence a robber to 15 years in jail.

Julius Kgatla of Alex, whose six other gang members are still at large, robbed the crew and vehicle of a courier company of medicine and cell phones as they delivered the consignment to patients on 31 October 2017.

The robbers then drove away in the vehicle which they dumped after unloading the boxes at Kgatla’s place. Company investigators traced and recovered the vehicle and some of the medicine was found at Kgatla’s place leading to his arrest. He was sentenced despite claiming that unknown people used his room to rummage through the boxes.
