Helen Tasfay thanks her single mother after winning Miss Alex Mall competition

ALEXANDRA–If it wasn't for my mother's teachings I wouldn't be where I am today.


The newly-crowned Miss Alex Mall has thanked her mother for her support in making sure her dream to become the face of Alex Mall, came true.

A 16-year-old Helen Tasfay was crowned as the first Miss Alex Mall at the beauty pageant competition hosted by the two-year-old mall.

The Grade 11 learner at New Gate College who lives with her single mother in 15th Avenue in Alexandra, said her mother’s support played a vital role in her victory. “If it wasn’t for my mother’s teachings I wouldn’t be where I am today. She has been the pillar of my strength the entire competition. She supported me even when I was thinking of giving up,” she said.

“The competition has helped me grow my confidence and taught me the importance of discipline. I am looking forward to working with the community of Alexandra in helping my peers overcome their insecurities.”

First princess Neo Tlhapane (16) from Ext 9 Tsutsumani and second princess Moratwaa Moeng (18) a first-year business studies student at Richfield College, both thanked their single mothers for their support as well.

Boipelo Monnye (17) of Wendy Wood High School was crowned Miss Personality by Legit.

Alex Mall marketing manager Lily Bophela extended her gratitude to the Legit clothing shop and Fastrack sound equipment shop for their contributions to ensure that all the contestants looked gorgeous on the day of the event. She added that the event will be hosted annually around this time of the year.
