Region E departments take A Re Sebetseng cleaning campaign to Alexandra

ALEXANDRA – Community members were urged to report issues like potholes, illegal dumping and illegal structures to the City and local councillors.

In their quest to keep the streets of Alexandra clean after a chaotic two weeks of a total shutdown in the oldest township of Johannesburg, staff members from different City departments in Region E embarked on a special A Re Sebetseng cleaning project in Alex.

According to the regional project coordinator, Phindi Lethoko, the project was not only aimed at cleaning the streets and cutting the grass in the neighbourhood but to attend to some of the issues raised by residents during the total shutdown protest.

The department of City Parks and Zoo worked with Pikitup to clean the streets and cut the grass around East Bank while City Power and Johannesburg Road Agency (JRA) teamed up to fix street lights and repair potholes in the area.

“Today’s project is not about cleaning the streets only as we usually do. We’ve brought a number of departments and City entities that will attend to different issues. Our teams will ensure that all notorious spots are attended to and fixed,” said Lethoko.

Lethoko urged community members to report issues like potholes, illegal dumping and illegal structures to the City and local councillors.

“The issue of illegal dumping is on the rise in the area. We call upon community members to work with us by reporting all service delivery related issues to the relevant department and entities of the city so that we those issues are resolved quickly and swiftly,” she said.
