For the first time since the events’ inception in 2001, the Totalsports Women’s Race sets to host a one day race across three major cities, Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban, to commemorate National Women’s Day.
Agne du Plessis, Stillwater Sports general manager of road running said, “We are extremely excited to host the women’s race on one day across three cities.”
Du Plessis explained that in the previous years the event would kick off in Durban in July before heading to Johannesburg and Cape Town. “This year we will triple the fun on 9 August, National Women’s Day, with women from all walks of life in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban uniting to take on a 5km or 10km road run (or walk) in support of PinkDrive.”
Patrick Singh, head of Totalsports marketing said the women’s race was a fun-filled Women’s Day celebration that encourages a healthy lifestyle and supports the PinkDrive.
“We are proud to host South Africa’s largest Women’s Day celebration and extremely excited to be doing so in three major cities on one day this year. This year we will emphasise the message that we are #StrongerTogether.
“People run for various reasons, irrespective of the reason we’d like to invite all women (grandmothers, aunts, sisters, mothers and daughters) to run united as we support PinkDrive and raise awareness around breast cancer because we are #StrongerTogether.”
Online entries are now open and will close on 26 July. Each entrant will receive a fitted event T-shirt and a finisher’s bracelet and an entertaining route with refreshment points.
