Celebrate your man

ALEXANDRA – Prepare in advance to pamper your man, husband on 19 November.

Men’s often frenetic lives seldom allow them time to pause, ponder and note what the world dedicates to them.

This, in a world where, without fail, many of their female counterparts stop the world every 14 February for everyone to honour them. Equally, the youth have days and moments of their own when they urge for a fairer world and an end to their challenges.

Despite their power which enables them to do as they please and sometimes displeases, men are still to master that there also exists a day which the world ‘generously’ allocated to them to also feel honoured as part of the human eco-system. The few who know seem to view this moment on 19 November, International Men’s Day as non-consequential.

The day comes months after the February women’s Valentine celebration which men valiantly look forward to, to honour the women for a plethora of reasons. In their spousal role, they dish out rosaries in appreciation of women. Sometimes, done in disguise, to cajole for peace and hoodwink the unsuspecting woman in an attempt to recover lost or floundering love.

It is important on their ‘own’ day, for the public to help dress down the men from machismo and, make them realise that they too have a soft spot which ought to be celebrated, make them feel humane and approachable, appreciated and honoured. It’s a day to celebrate the positive value they bring to the world, their families and communities. Celebrating their being will also help them realise that they too are part of an interdependent relationship with women and children whose peace and progress derives from co-existence. We all need and should honour each other equally.

The day which has been in the history books for very long ought to be made real. Awareness campaigns need to ensure it is celebrated to also encourage men to start caring for each other. As a minority ‘species’ they need help to bind, respect and protect one another from wanton self-destructive acts like murder, substance abuse and proliferating dangers which deplete their numbers, at a time when they need each other the most. This destructive behaviour seems to be driven by their misplaced animalistic instinct and belief that after all, their mission is to rule the roast.

Helping men to mark this day every calendar year will help to humble, normalise and make them appreciate the importance to their psyche by being caressed and pampered with roses. Chocolates and massages would be part of a long list of goodies to discourage them from their barbaric conduct to women and children.
