Museum enlightens on Alex

ALEXANDRA – Alex's many intricacies told by Alex Museum.


The Alex Museum‘s rich information will persuade hardened critics to seize perpetuating the township’s ill-placed nickname of Sodom and Gomorrah.

Among others, the information is on the township’s trials and tribulations, victory over adversity and the continuing march to human beings’ idealised vision of the elusive total freedom. It’s a history of determination against mammoth odds brushed aside by sheer zeal, determination and undying effort to overcome by residents who continue to march forward.

In so doing, laying the foundation of a better understanding of the genesis of current challenges and protests in housing, against social malaise and crime besetting their township years into democracy.

It documents the history of inter-generations from the dead and their offspring who live to tell the tale orally through modern technological devices and by interactions facilitated by tour guides who include museum visits in their itinerary.

The documented and oral evidence of the township also lay bare the township’s contribution to the world through the sacrifices of its renowned descendants in politics, culture, art, education, religious and sports. This in addition to shrines and sites including of notoriety and the glitter from gold nuggets which engineered the great trek to the City of Gold through the now polluted Jukskei River which meanders through the township crying for a facelift, while the same polluted water is the source of attraction for the downstream homes and prime land of the affluent.

The accompanying pictorial glimpse of this township’s history and continuing struggle mode should ignite yet another ‘trek’ this time, in search of the real Alex.
