Footage nails thieving security officer

ALEXANDRA – A council security officer is said to have been caught red-handed stealing computers.

A security officer at the Joburg City Council is appearing in the Hillbrow Magistrates Court for the alleged theft of computers.

In a statement, the City stated that the 35-year-old male suspect was caught in the act at Thuso House at night on 4 March. He was allegedly captured on CCTV footage at 7 pm removing the first computer from the building. He apparently returned at 8 pm to steal the second computer and was caught in the act by an official of the Revenue Shared Services. The incident was reported to Group Forensic and Investigation Service (GFIS) who called in the police leading to the suspect’s arrest.

The statement denounced corruption saying the administration will work tirelessly in collaboration with law enforcement agencies to ensure that residents of Johannesburg receive the quality services they deserve. It encouraged residents to report any fraud and corruption activities through the 24-hour tip-off hotline 0800 002 587 or visit the GFIS offices at 48 Ameshoff Street, Braamfontein.
