Inner-city developments tour to showcase progress of inner-city rejuvenation

JOHANNESBURG – Mayor Herman Mashaba to showcase the progress of the inner-city rejuvenation.

City of Johannesburg Mayor Herman Mashaba has on numerous occasions vowed to turn the city into a construction site.

Mashaba and MMC for Development Planning Reuben Masango will visit various development projects that have been implemented by the Johannesburg Development Agency. The visit will take place on 19 March.

The focus of the tour is also to highlight how projects are planned, how they are built and how partnerships are fostered with key stakeholders and members of the community.

Under Operation Buya Mthetho the mayor has managed to take back some of the buildings that were hijacked and turn them into affordable housing and others are earmarked for student accommodation.

“As a multi-party government, we made it clear that we are going to turn this city into a construction site. We want to provide employment opportunities for our people and affordable accommodation,” said Mashaba.

Mashaba has been very vocal on bringing back the rule of law in the city. He said the city cannot thrive if people are not complying with the law. The mayor together with his Operation Buya Mthetho team has been going around the city disconnecting electricity and water that were connected illegally from the City’s services.
