Sentenced for copper possesion

ALEXANDRA – Man is sentenced to two years' imprisonment.

The Alexandra Magistrates’ Court sentenced a man to two years’ imprisonment for the possession of stolen property.

Praisegod Mpofu (22) was part of a group of five who were arrested on 12 August last year in Midrand. Police on patrol in a vehicle switched on the siren when they saw the group acting suspiciously and ordered them to stop. They were searched and was found with copper wire in a backpack.

The men also failed to explain why their hands were darkened, supposedly by soot associated with burnt rubber, and they were arrested. Mpofu admitted to the offence and plea bargained for the release of his accomplices.
