Untrustworthy guards sentenced

ALEXANDRA – Cops tail and arrest thieving guards in the act.

The Alexandra Magistrates’ Court sentenced three security guards to two years’ imprisonment each for theft.

Mpumelelo Mahlukwana, Beki Marembe and Lucas Bongo admitted to the charge of theft at night on 5 February from a company they were guarding in Midrand. The trio, who had access keys, opened a building and loaded printers, computers, screens, laptops, fans, cameras, a bed and headboard, office chairs and a kettle into a vehicle which they drove to an unspecified location.

Someone who saw them alerted the police who followed them, tailing them as they returned to the business. The police arrested them as they made a second load. The stolen items were all recovered.
