Call for submissions on the property practitioners bill [B21B – 2018]

Governance, Traditional Affairs and Settlements Portfolio Committee

Led by  its Chairperson, Honourable Mohatla Phutas Tseki, the Gauteng Provincial Legislature’s COGTA & Human Settlements Portfolio Committee, will convene public

hearings on the Property Practitioners Bill [B21B –2018]. These public hearings are held in fulfilment of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature’s constitutional mandate to facilitate meaningful public consultation by affording the people of Gauteng and other interested groups/organizations with a platform to make inputs on the Amendment Bill.

THE BILL SEEKS TO:

Provide for the regulation of property practitioners;

to provide for the continuation of the Estate

Agency Affairs Board as the Property Practitioners

Regulatory Authority; to provide for the appointment of the members of the Board and matters incidental thereto; to provide for the appointment of the Chief Executive Officer and other staff members of the Authority; to provide for transformation of the property practitioners sector; to provide for the establishment of the transformation fund and establishment of the research centre on transformation; to provide for

compliance with and enforcement of the provisions of the Act; to provide for the continuation of

the Estate Agents Fidelity Fund as the Property Practitioners Fidelity Fund; to provide for consumer protection; to provide for the repeal of the Estate Agency Affairs Act, 1976; and to provide for matters connected therewith.

THE PUBLIC HEARINGS ARE SCHEDULED TO TAKE PLACE AS FOLLOWS:

Venue: Johannesburg City Hall, Cnr Loveday & President | Date: Tuesday, 19th February 2019 | Time: 10h00

Venue: Corner Rabie and Basden Roads, Centurion Town Council Building, Council Chambers block A Lyttelton Centurion.

Date: Saturday, 23rd February 2018 | Time: 10h00

The Portfolio Committee invites all interested stakeholders and organizations to forward their written submissions and comments (preferably via email) before or on 22nd February 2019. The Committee will also host pre-hearing workshops to sensitise the public on the contents of the Bill. Dates and venues will be communicated on our website and via social media.
