Although there is no cure for this very serious disease, it can be prevented if your dog is properly vaccinated. Fourways Vet Hospital recommends the following vaccination schedule for effective prevention:

• First vaccination:

When your puppy is aged between six and eight weeks and is no longer protected by their mother’s immunity

• Second vaccination:

Between 10–12 weeks

• Third vaccination:

Between 14–16 weeks

• Once your dog reaches adulthood, vaccines should be given annually.
